Global E-Cigarette Regulations Update and VODO BAR’s Compliance Strategy
As the e-cigarette industry continues to evolve, various countries are updating their regulations to ensure public health and safety. VODO BAR remains committed to adhering to these regulations and providing tailored solutions for each market. Here’s a look at the latest global e-cigarette policies and how VODO BAR adapts to meet these requirements.
1. Australia
On June 25, the Australian Health Minister Mark Butler announced a forthcoming law that will ban recreational e-cigarettes. Starting July 1, only therapeutic e-cigarettes will be sold, exclusively through pharmacies. From October 1, 2024, individuals will be able to purchase therapeutic e-cigarettes directly from pharmacies without a prescription, provided they show ID to prove they are over 18.
2. United States
The Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) in Michigan is implementing new rules to ban the use of MCT oil (medium-chain triglycerides) in e-cigarettes. Effective October 1, e-cigarette cannabis oils must pass MCT oil testing before they can be sold.
3. Qatar
The Qatari Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) issued a warning against the use of e-cigarettes, highlighting potential health risks. Qatar prohibits the sale, distribution, and promotion of e-cigarettes. Statistics indicate that about 11% of tobacco users in Qatar use e-cigarettes.
4. Estonia
Estonia plans to expand smoke-free zones to include beaches, parks, and other public spaces, restricting the use of all tobacco and nicotine products. The government recently approved this stance, aligning with broader European tobacco policies.
5. Malaysia
Public health expert Dr. Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh suggested that Malaysia should legislate to ban e-cigarettes, especially those containing caffeine. She recommends restricting e-cigarette flavors to tobacco, mint, and menthol, similar to policies in Denmark, Estonia, Slovenia, and Australia.
6. South Korea
The Korea Vape Show 2024 has been rescheduled from May to October 25-27, 2024, and will now be held in Seoul at the K-Hotel.
7. Italy
Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency added eight new websites to its list of banned sites, bringing the total to 861. These sites mainly involve the illegal sale of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and related liquids. Additionally, the Bolzano city council passed a proposal to ban smoking, including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco devices, in public pool areas, limiting smoking to designated zones.
8. Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan has banned the import and sale of e-cigarettes and cartridges within its territory. This legislation aims to protect citizens from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine.
9. Pakistan
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan has imposed a temporary 60-day ban on the use of e-cigarettes and nicotine products in public places, as a precursor to a potential permanent ban.
